Instead of spending decades with in and out nutrition & exercise programs take the time and actually learn. It's no secret why elimination diets work and then don't work. Being on a ketogenic, paleo, no sugar, wheat belly, hcg, blah, blah, plan is meant to eventually lead you down a path of education and balance anyway. Slowly reintroducing carbohydrates or having some days of increased calories but most people restrict themselves so much that when the time comes to go through each of these designed changes they get lazy again and revert back to the old.
This is no different from when you're a kid and you think doing the dishes or folding the towels is a punishment brought up from the 5th ring of hell by the devil himself. Kids try & cut corners and try and just knock out the chore as fast as possible. Make it easy and just learn it from the start.

START FROM THE START!!
Everything you eat try and categorize it in to either a fat, carbohydrate, protein (Macronutrient). Most foods won't fall in to a category of only having one of these macronutrients(fat, carb, protein) but they can easily be categorized in to one or two generals. We can work on quality and amount/s of each one later down the road. Start here.
Start tomorrow morning when you have your eggs(protein/fat), toast(carbohydrate), bacon(protein/fat), berries(carbohydrate), creamer(fat). If you come across one that you don't know throw it in a search engine or ask. Don't eliminate foods simply because you want to take a shortcut and not learn. Food is something we need and should frankly enjoy every single day of our lives. You should probably not short cut it huh?
If you think you need the restriction of an extreme plan go ahead but understand this should be approached as a chapter 1 to your lifelong plan. Learn whether a food is a fat, carbohydrate, protein, and/or alcohol. Listen and learn how your body is responding to the foods you eat and how they effect your mood, sleep, performance, etc...... Just not, you can eat this and not eat that.......forever!
